Gaslamp Quarter
The Gaslamp Quarter is a 16½ block historical neighborhood in downtown San Diego, California. The area is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places as Gaslamp Quarter Historic District. Its main period of development began in 1867, when Alonzo Horton bought the land in hopes of creating a new city center closer to the bay, and chose 5th Avenue as its main street. After a period of urban decay, the neighborhood underwent urban renewal in the 1980s and 1990s, and is today an energetic business and entertainment district.
The Quarter is home to many events and festivals, including Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp, Street Scene Music Festival, Taste of Gaslamp and Shamrock, a St. Patrick’s Day event. PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres is located one block away in downtown San Diego’s East Village. The Gaslamp Quarter, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, extends from Broadway to Harbor Drive, and from 4th to 6th Avenue, covering 16½ blocks. It includes 94 historic buildings, most of which were constructed in the Victorian Era, and are still in use with active tenants including restaurants, shops and nightclubs.

The San Diego Chargers are a professional American football team based in San Diego, California. They are currently members of the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The club began play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League, and spent its first season in Los Angeles, California before moving to San Diego in 1961. The Chargers play their home games at Qualcomm Stadium. Ever since the Rams and the Raiders left Los Angeles in 1994, the Chargers are currently the only professional football team based in Southern California.

San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres are a Major League Baseball team based in San Diego, California. They play in the National League Western Division. Founded in 1969, the Padres have won the National League Pennant twice, in 1984 and 1998, losing in the World Series both times. They and the Los Angeles Angels are the only MLB California teams to originate in California; the Dodgers and Giants are originally from New York, and the Athletics are originally from Philadelphia.

Home to more than 4,000 rare and endangered animals representing more than 800 species and subspecies, the San Diego Zoo is a world famous conservation organization where visitors view exotic animals in habitat environments. Zoo guests may view rare giant pandas, cuddly looking koalas, reptiles of various shapes and sizes and many more interesting species.

San Diego Beaches stretch from Mexico to Oceanside. Though San Diego is most famous for Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and Ocean Beach. The San Diego beaches are globally acclaimed as among the best in the world.

Del Mar Race Track
Del Mar Racetrack is an American Thoroughbred horse racing track at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in the seaside city of Del Mar, California, 20 miles north of San Diego. Operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, it is known for the slogan: “Where The Surf Meets The Turf.” It was built by a partnership including Bing Crosby, the actor Pat O’Brien, Jimmy Durante, Charles S. Howard and Oliver Hardy.
Each year, the track opens their 37-day summer racing season in mid-July to crowds upwards of 40,000 people.
The first race of the meet on opening day starts at 2 pm when track announcer Trevor Denman begins each racing season with his trademark call: “And there’s the roar from the Del Mar crowd as the (year) Del Mar meet is underway.”
Polo Grounds
Polo the famous team sport played on horseback, in which the objective is to score goals against an opposing team, is a San Diego favorite. The game first played in the 5th century BC, or much earlier, was at first a training game for cavalry units, usually the king’s guard or other elite troops. To the warlike tribesmen, who played it with as many as 100 to a side, it was a miniature battle. Today San Diegans can watch Polo matches as players relive the days of old on the Polo grounds.
San Diego Polo Club is a polo club in situated Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego, California. The San Diego Polo Club has one of the longest playing seasons in the country, offering polo from May- November, 5 world-class polo fields, exercise track, stables for more than 400 horses, an indoor arena and thriving polo school. The 2011 summer season open to the public runs June 12- October 2. Polo lessons are offered May- November.
Local Rugby Clubs
A San Diego favorite, Rugby gives spectators a chance to watch 30 players battle one another to score points in one of the aggressive sports in America. San Diego is known for several Rugby clubs but most notable is OMBAC who play next to QUALCOMM Stadium on Saturdays at the “Little Q”.
Based in San Diego, California, OMBAC Rugby was founded in the Spring of 1966. Since that time OMBAC Rugby has distinguished itself as the nation’s premier Rugby Football Club. OMBAC Rugby offers quality rugby football and a wide variety of social events throughout the year to athletes of all ages, races, colors and religions. New members are always welcome, including athletes who have never played rugby before. Games can be watched on Saturdays duringthe spring and summer. Nothing can provide as much excitement as catching a Rugby game on an afternoon in San Diego.
